International Field Symposium

Lateglacial–Interglacial transition: glaciotectonic, seismoactivity, catastrophic hydrographic and landscape changes, South-Eastern Fennoscandia

Format and venue:

The symposium will be held in southern part of Republic of Karelia, Russia. Field excursions will consist of visiting the ancient volcano Girvas, unique sources of mineral water (the first Russian resort the Martial Waters), the region of paleoseismic deformations on the western shore of the Onega Lake, Valaam Island with its unique geology and nature and in other places.

The Organizing Committee provides two days for oral and poster presentations (the 22nd & 23rd of August) and three and a half days for field excursions. Within the framework of the conference there will be allocated time for the school of young scientists with lectures given by leading scientists The symposium and excursion will begin and end at Petrozavodsk. The symposium residence will be at one of Petrozavodsk's hotel.

Registration fee:

The registration fee is preliminary set at 400 EUR. The fee covers field trip transportation, accommodation, full board and conference materials. The final symposium fee depends on the total number of participants. Please note that the registration fee does not cover any health or travel insurance. The number of participants is limited to 45 persons (up to 50% of the seats will be given to young scientists).

Abstracts for oral and poster presentations:

Colleagues are invited to submit abstracts relevant to the topic of the Symposium. Abstracts will be published in special conference volume and should not exceed 2 A4 pages (12 pt, single line spacing), including figures and references. Further details will be given in the second circular.

Important deadlines:

  • Preliminary registration - January 30, 2018
  • Second circular, opening of abstract submission and registration - February, 2018
  • Deadline for abstracts - April 30, 2018
  • End of registration and Third circular - June, 2018
  • Excursion and symposium - 19-26 Aug, 2018
